Queensland Museum Rail Workshops welcomes Australian Vocal Ensemble (AVÉ) to Ipswich for a special weekend pop-up residency this September.
For one weekend, AVÉ will make its home in the historic Dining Hall, opening the doors to local singers and the community for a series of workshops and a special preview of new Australian vocal music.
At a time when Queensland Museum Rail Workshops is not currently open for general visitation, this residency offers a unique opportunity to step inside the museum, spend time with AVÉ and be part of the ensemble’s developing relationship with the Ipswich community.

AVÉ invites adult community singers to join the ensemble for a free afternoon of singing and music-making.
Each participant must register separately.
Participants will learn two works alongside AVÉ, working directly with the ensemble in the Dining Hall. The workshops are designed to welcome community singers with choral experience and begin building connections towards a second AVÉ activation in Ipswich in 2027, including future opportunities for local singers to perform with the ensemble.
Registration is free. When you register, you’ll receive the workshop sheet music so you can familiarise yourself with the repertoire before the weekend.

Return on Sunday for a special preview of repertoire AVÉ has been developing, including new works setting texts by acclaimed Queensland author Trent Dalton.
The session offers an intimate opportunity to hear this music as part of AVÉ’s residency and experience the ensemble’s distinctive approach to bringing Australian stories, words and music to life through song.
